Safe Drinking Water: Your Input is Important
The Quinte Region Source Protection Committee is working to develop a plan, by 2012, to protect our sources of municipal drinking water. The Committee wants your ideas and suggestions on the draft proposed work plan and budget. Deadline for comments is June 17, 2008. More information available on the Quinte Source Water Protection website.
Bill C-51
If you are even tangentially involved with the wellness industry in Canada, you have no doubt been inundated with emails these last couple of weeks decrying the federal government’s Bill C-51. The proposed law seeks to speed up the process for introducing new drugs onto the market. In doing so, the natural health products industry would be decimated. It is estimated that 60-70% of natural health products would be removed from store shelves, and any natural product could be designated so that it was available only by prescription. The fine for breaking this law could be as high as $5M and/or two years in jail.
The fast-tracking of Bill C-51 is alarming (it has already passed the first two readings), but there is much you can do to help slow down the process until all voices are heard, and all outcomes can be weighed. Below are some useful links:
Read the Bill.
Natural Health Products Protection Association has a discussion paper about the bill.
Call To Action has some handy links as well as a What You Can Do section.
Many online petitions are available. I’ve provided a link to one.
There is a lot of information out there. As always, arm yourself with knowledge so you may act wisely.

Quinte Midwifery Committee Needs Your Support
Unbelievably, the Quinte Midwives have yet to be granted privileges at area hospitals despite having met all the conditions placed upon them. It appears that they are being stonewalled in their attempts to give Quinte mothers the choice to deliver their babies how and where they want.
According to the Association of Ontario Midwives, "a midwifery attended birth in hospital saves the health care system $ 800 and if a midwifery client gives birth at home, the cost savings is $1, 800. Savings are due to the c-section rate for midwifery clients being 30% lower, readmission rates to hospital is 65% lower than other providers and shorter hospital stays including over double the rate of early discharge to low-risk clients` as the midwifery care follows the client home. In addition, the AOM states `there are broader savings to the health care system, including reduced nursing staff time, reduced emergency room visits and reduced use of walk-in clinics.` Midwifery then frees up hospital resources."
Support choice for new mothers in Quinte. Please sign the petition.

Slight Operating Hiccup on Website
Well, after nearly a year online, the spammers finally found us. Until I get added security features up, you may notice some strange goings-on with the Directory and Free Listing Sign-ups. Just so you know, "Dwayne" from "LOOK cheap drugs online" isn’t really a wellness practitioner.
Weavers of Light on Amazon
TWA members Wendy Murdoch and Krow Fischer are pleased to announce that their book Weavers of Light is available at Amazon.
This book was channeled directly from the Council of Elders, a collective group of souls also known as the Akashic Record Keepers, the Ancient Ones, or simply the Grandfathers and Grandmothers. The main voice is a soul known as Tatananayaho or Red.
Channeled through Krow and received by Wendy, this book is a manual on conscious living.
